Overview

Client: Axpo. Location: Poland & Switzerland. Industry: Green energy (renewables and gas). The project was delivered by a team consisting of a Tech Coordinator, Senior RPA Developer, Agile Coach, and Project Manager. Technology used: UiPath. Timeframe: one year and ongoing.

Key metrics

The engagement resulted in 6.18 FTEs saved, $186,000 of pure profit generated in the first year, a 147% return on investment, approximately 54,000 automated actions per month, and an average bot accuracy exceeding 90%.

Client

Axpo is Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy and an international leader in energy trading and the marketing of solar, wind, and gas power.

The challenge

We were recommended to Axpo as a process automation agency by our technology partner UiPath, who were familiar with the scale and complexity of projects we had delivered previously. Axpo was experiencing rapid growth that existing processes could not support, relied on manual workflows in billing and switching departments that were no longer scalable, and operated under strict regulatory requirements across multiple energy markets. While both UiPath and Power Automate were initially considered, UiPath was selected due to its superior handling of complex processes and stronger orchestration capabilities. Axpo also brought a backlog of automation ideas, which were validated during workshops before development began.

Solution

To address these challenges, we built a network of RPA bots supporting Axpo’s billing and switching operations. One automation focused on generating and sending annual purchase summaries to approximately 1,500 partners by logging into multiple distribution network operator systems, extracting usage data, calculating costs, generating reports, and sending them for approval, reducing 27 days of manual work to a single day. Another automation targeted invoicing and invoice corrections, where bots queried Power BI to identify invoices ready for processing, logged into the CRM system, generated invoices, and corrected existing ones, resulting in more than 600 transactions automated daily and significantly improved invoicing speed and accuracy.

The outcome

After automating the initial set of processes, Axpo achieved savings equivalent to 6.18 FTEs with projected annual savings of $186,000. The collaboration continues, with ongoing identification of new automation opportunities and expansion of the RPA bot network. Axpo, thank you for your trust. If you are looking to automate processes in your energy company, discover what we can do for you.
